TDSAT gives interim relief to UCN, directs Taj TV to restore signals

The Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on 9 June has directed Taj Television, distributor of Zee Turner channels to restore signals of its channels to Nagpur-based multi-system operator (MSO) UCN Cable Network by 10 June, provided the latter clears its outstanding dues.
UCN Cable network had filed a petition No. 285(c) of 2015 against a disconnection notice given by Taj Television for non-payment of its dues amounting to Rs 4,40,36,870/- as on 20th April 2015.
As an interim relief UCN has been directed to pay a sum of Rs 1.5 crore (Rs 15 million) within a week and another sum of Rs 1.5 crore (Rs 15 million) within four weeks from the date of the first payment. It will also have to pay monthly subscription fees as per the invoices raised by the distributor.
The tribunal also made it clear that this shall be without prejudice to the rights and contentions of the parties.
Taj had disconnected the supply of its signals to the MSO on 27 May due to non-payment of outstanding dues for digital addressable system (DAS) and non-DAS areas.
The tribunal also clarified that Taj would be free to disconnect the supply of its signals in case UCN defaults on payment of the instalments and/or monthly subscription fees.
