CNBC-TV18 complaints ASCI against ET Now

CNBC business news Channel of TV 18 group has complaint to the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) against an ad campaign launched by ET Now on 31st May. In its campaign, ET Now has claimed itself to be ‘India’s No. 1 Business Channel’ based on the data released by BARC.
As per the complaint, ASCI have advised ET Now to withdraw or modify the said ad by 22 June 2015. According to ASCI, the data provided by the advertiser is for leadership among English business channels only and it does not consider the other regional business channels. Hence, it was misleading by omission and contravened Chapter I.4 of the ASCI Code.
The ASCI also upheld the complaint against ET Now’s claim to be ‘Built on Speed. 6 out of 10 Business Stories Break on ET Now’ as the channel could not provide evidence that it was indeed able to break stories faster than its peers. This contravened Chapters I.1 and I.4 of the ASCI Code.
