Sun TV singled out: says Kalanithi Maran

Soon after MHA wrote to I&B Ministry denying the security nod to 33 channels and FM stations of Sun TV group on the ground of economic security, the Group's chairman and managing director, Kalanithi Maran issued a memorandum to finance and I&B minister, Arun Jaitley, where he has complained that his company was being unjustly singled out.
It is learned from the sources that the Ministry had received a letter from Maran on 8th June, where he wrote ,“There are several TV and FM Radio companies, including some controlled by very large business conglomerates, which among them have pending cases involving 2G spectrum, corporate espionage at the Ministry of Petroleum, corruption involving disproportionate assets and extortions. Security clearances for these media companies have not been revoked”. He pointed out that clearance was supposedly denied on the ground of proceedings involving Sun Direct TV Private Ltd that remains pending before the CBI and the ED. Hence, He charged that his company had been singled out.
He also said that all telecom companies were allowed to bid for the recent 3G and 4G spectrum auctions and all power companies were allowed to participate in recent auctions, despite pending cases with CBI/ ED. He has also mentioned that the Sun TV limited alone contributes more than 600 crores per annum as taxes to the national exchequer and has asserted that the company has been in full compliance of all laws.
However, it seems that the I& B Ministry is not in a mood to take any immediate action in the matter and prefers to await opinion from the Law Ministry.
Meanwhile, Maran has asked Home Minister Rajnath Singh to intervene, saying that his company was never involved in any anti-national or criminal activity refuting the claims that he and his brother, former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran are involved in any criminal cases.
