Number of television channels shrinks to 826 in India

After Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Big Broadcasting and Rajeev Chandrasekhar-promoted Asianet News Network (ANN) has surrendered four non-news and one news & current affairs channel licences respectively, the total number of television channels in India has shrunk to 826 from 832.
Reliance currently runs three TV channels, namely Big Magic, Big Magic Ganga and Big Thrill in India. For the international market, it has Big Magic International. While, ANN currently runs two news channels, namely Asianet News and Suvarna News.
Earlier, news channels ABC News and Voice of Nation had surrendered their TV channel licences to the ministry, taking the total number of channels down to 830 as on 30 April 2015.
