Attorney-General terms denial of security clearance to Sun TV Network as illegal

Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi has come in support of Kalanithi Maran promoted Sun TV, saying that denial of security license to 33 channels of the network by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the ground of corruption charges against its promoters is not legal.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry had recently approached the Law Ministry to seek the opinion of the top law officer after the Home Ministry denied security clearance to the network.
Mr. Rohtagi, in his constitutional capacity as one of the government’s top law officer said, security licenses can be granted to the channel, as agencies are probing against cases related to corruption and not security. He added, corruption cases cannot be the reason to deny the network security clearance.
