TRAI issues the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Sixth Amendment) Regulations 2015

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on 25 February issued 6th amendment to the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulation, 2009 which will facilitate Full MNP (PAN India Portability in the country w.e.f. 3rd May 2015.

Supreme Court rejects Star India suggestions on World Cup live telecasts

The Supreme Court on 20 February directed to continue suspension of the High Court order of 04 February till further orders, rejecting suggestions from Star India for Prasar Bharati to either start a new channel for broadcasting Cricket World Cup live feed or run a scroll that the transmission is only meant for Doordarshan. The matter will now come up in July 2015.

Telangana Cable operators want all channels free-to-air

The Telangana State Cable TV Operators Welfare Association has demanded that Multiple System Operators (MSOs) declare all channels free-to-air or offer advertisement-free channels to collect money separately for each pay channel. The association also demanded that all entertainment channels be brought under basic service platform, charging Rs.150 per customer. 

DD can share feed of World Cup 2015 matches with private cable operators: SC

Doordarshan (DD) can continue to share live feed of cricket World Cup matches with private cable operators as the Supreme Court on 20 February granted a stay on the Delhi High Court order in this regard. 
The High Court had allowed the plea of Star India Ltd, which holds the exclusive telecast rights of the Cricket world cup, and had asked Prasar Bharati not to share the live feed of the matches with private cable operators.

2.5 Lakh Gram Panchayats are to be connected by National Optic Fiber Network in next Three Years

The Minister for Communication & IT has said that 6000 crore Rupees worth projects were approved in his ministry under the ‘Make in India’ programme out of proposals worth 20000 crore Rupees that were received. As a part of Digital India programme 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats are to be connected by National Optic Fibre Network in next three years through seven lakh kilometers of Optic Fiber Cable. There is digital divide at present skewed towards Metro cities. Digital India programme will try to bridge this gap, the minister added. Digital India programme is expected to generate five (5) crore direct and indirect employment.
