Lava’s new initiative ‘Design in India’ gets appreciation from Govt.

The leading Indian mobile phone manufacturer Lava has gone a step ahead of ‘Make in India’ and has launched ‘Design in India’, which has got appreciation from all quarters. Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that 22.5 crore mobiles are being manufactured in India annually and the aim is to make India a big hub of mobile, electronics manufacturing right from concept, design to execution. “Hence, this initiative is quite praiseworthy.”


Lava launched its first ‘Designed in India’ feature phone on 23 January and will be launching its first ‘Designed in India’ smartphone in October this year.

Lava will invest Rs 2600 crores over the next 5-7 years in manufacturing mobile handsets under the ‘Design in India’ initiative, and will invest Rs 250 crores more by 2021.

According to Hari Om Rai, Chairman & Managing Director, LAVA International, “The Design in India initiative is one of the most significant milestones towards achieving our country’s vision of making India a global hub for mobile phone manufacturing. ‘Design in India’ is a critical step towards building the mobile components and parts eco-system in the country.”

Lava makes 30 lakh handsets per month is aiming 1.2 crores handsets per month in the period of 5-7 years.
