Google & L&T partner for providing 150 Station hotspots in Pune

To strengthen the Digital India mission and to connect more and more people through broadband, Search giant Google and Larsen & Toubro have partnered. The deal will enable them to bring 150 Google Station hotspots to Pune, which will be part of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited’s Smart City project.


Google will help monetize the city Wi-Fi network, and will deploy Google Station platform, which has WiFi network management capability, and focuses on monetisation to make WiFi self-sustainable. Google is also working with IBM and RailTel for this contract, which is valued at Rs 150 crore.

Google India’s country head (connectivity) Gulzar Azad said, “We are looking at more partnerships around the Google Station platform. A specific initiative is partnerships with system integrators. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is one we are in discussions with. Interactions are also on with ISPs. Some will translate into partnerships.”

Google is aggressively helping India to become heavily connected. It has so far been providing Wi-Fi services at over 270 Railway Station across the country through its partnership with RailTel and Indian Railways, benefiting 7.7 million users. Its goal is to provide Wi-Fi service at 400 stations across India.
