VTV News & Republicworld.com face ASCI heat for misleading claims

The ARG Outlier Media Asianet News-owned Republicworld.com and Gujarati news channel VTV News are facing troubles for misleading claims, as the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has upheld complaints against them.

The VTV News ad was picked up based on a direct complaint while the one against epublicworld.com was based on suo moto action. “Gujarat’s most popular channel” was the claim made by VTV News.

The ASCI said that Republicworld.com’s claim of “India’s biggest digital news network” was not substantiated with any market survey data or with any verifiable comparative data.

ASCI’s Consumer Complaints Council (CCC), in October 2017, upheld complaints against 200 advertisements. A total of 319 cases were brought to ASCI’s notice and Suo Moto action was taken against 148 advertisements, and the rest being complaints through direct sources.
