DY 365 & VTV face heat of I&B Ministry for content violation

Assamese news channel DY 365 and Gujarati news channel VTV have been temporarily banned by the Ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) for violation of the content code.

The I&B Ministry has prohibited the transmission or re-transmission of DY 365 for three days on any distribution platform throughout India with effect from 15-18 December. In the case of VTV, the ministry has prohibited the transmission or re-transmission of the channel for one day on any platform throughout India with effect from 16-17 December.

The decision to ban the channels for 1 and 3 days respectively was taken by the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) based on the materials present on record and the submissions made by the channel representatives.

DY 365 had telecast a news report on 4 June based on a ritual in which a man could be seen tossing a new-born baby up and down in the air. He hurls and slings the baby in every possible manner and direction without a shred of care and concern. The ministry further noted that the video meant to expose an extremely dangerous superstition allegedly prevalent in some parts of Assam where people believe that undergoing this ritual will keep the child safe.

The Ministry said that the visuals are extremely disturbing, and not suitable for unrestricted public exhibition.

On VTV, the ministry noted that the channel had telecast a news programme namely ‘Viral Truth’ on 20 March in which a man could be seen brutally beating up children in an orphanage and the video started trending on social media alleging that this incident occurred in RMVM school of Valsad, Gujarat.
