Late 90s famous TV host Suhaib Ilyasi gets life imprisonment for killing his wife

Those who watched TV in late 1990s know Suhaib Ilyasi, the host of popular crime TV series ‘India’s Most Wanted’ on Zee TV. He then created lots of buzz and became a household name as it was first-of-its-kind show then on any TV channel. All channels he approached with the show declined to telecast except Zee TV in 1998.


But things turned ugly and he was allegedly killed his wife a few years after their marriage.

Now he has been awarded a life imprisonment by a Delhi court for the murder of his wife Anju. The court charged him guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh and also directed that Rs 10 lakh be paid to Anju’s parents as compensation.

17 years ago, Ilyasi was also convicted by the Karkardooma court in connection with the death of his wife. Anju was found dead in her East Delhi residence in January 2000 with multiple stab injuries on her body. Then, Ilyasi told the police that she had committed suicide after a quarrel with him. He was arrested in March 2000 following allegations of torture and harassments for dowry made by Ilyasi’s sister-in-law and mother-in-law.
