Idea to start VoLTE services in May

While Vodafone is aggressively launching its VoLTE services in many parts of the country, Idea Cellular will also start its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in a phased manner for its customers, starting from May this year.

As a matter of fact, Idea and Vodafone are in a process of merging operations, and are under ‘Active infrastructure sharing’ programme and 2G & 4G ICR arrangements across various service areas, and share around 49,000 sites.

Idea has already introduced VoLTE service for own employees in select circles. Currently, Reliance Jio is the only pan-India VoLTE service providers on pan India level.

The merger of Idea and Vodafone India is expected to be completed in H1CY18. Idea said that a planned fiber and PoP sharing programme is also underway in top 220 cities across the 22 telecom service areas.
