Indian Army warns WhatsApp users against potential Chinese hackers

The dangers posed by Chinese hackers have been echoed by the Indian Army. On 18 March, the army issued a video accusing Chinese hackers of targeting users in India via WhatsApp. In the video, the army spokesperson requested Indian users to use the social messenger application safely measures.

A few months ago, the same advisory was issued for soldiers.

According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Interface (ADGPI), the Chinese were penetrating the digital world and may hack Indian WhatsApp users’ cell phones.  The users were advised to be vigilant and urged them to conduct regular audits of their groups to see if any number starting with +86 had joined a group.

The Army also said that if user changes the SIM, they should destroy it completely.
