Budget 2018: I&B Ministry gets Rs 4,089-Cr

The budget allocation this time for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s (MIB) has come down 7.25% to Rs 4,089 crore. Last year, the Ministry got Rs 4,409 crore.


The Budget outlay on broadcasting is Rs 3090.27 crore compared to Rs 3374.7 crore in the current year. Information and publicity got an outlay of Rs 827.57 crore as against Rs 831.25 crore.

The entity formed by merging the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and Song and Drama Division (S&DD), the Bureau of Outreach and Communication has been given Rs 174.29 crore. Prasar Bharati, which runs Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR), has got an outlay of Rs 2,820.56 crore, which is 5.87% lower than Rs 2,996.70 crore allocated in the 2017-18 budget. The outlay is part of support to autonomous bodies.

Prasar Bharati also got an additional Rs 315 crore for 2018-19, which is 26.58% less than the Rs 430 crore it received for 2017-18. The grant-in-aid for ‘Kisan’ and ‘Arun Prabha’ channels is Rs 55.7 crore.

The government has allocated Rs 381.5 crore for information and publicity compared to Rs 405.9 crore in the current year. The revised outlay for the same is Rs 357.79 crore. The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) was allocated Rs 71.42 crore in the 2017-18 budget, DFP Rs 67.60 crore and S&DD Rs 45.70 crore.

The total outlay for films division is Rs 165.85 crore compared to Rs 207 crore.
