Alibaba partners with Disney for its OTT platform

To offer the captivating content of the Disney on its OTT platform Youku, the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group has a reached a deal with the former. It is a multi-year licencing licensing agreement which will enable Youku to offer more than 1,000 episodes of Disney’s animated series.


Youku claims to reach to around 580 million devices and gets about 1.2 billion views each day. The company also has licencing deals with Warner Bros., Paramount, Fox, NBC Universal and Sony Pictures Television, among others.

According to Alibaba Digital Media and Entertainment Group’s video streaming platform Youku president Yang Weidong, “The addition of Disney content greatly enriches the library of quality international content on Alibaba’s media and entertainment ecosystem, giving us a leading edge in foreign content distribution in China. We look forward to further cooperation with global entertainment companies, which will help increase our penetration in the family entertainment segment and strengthen Youku’s position as a leading multi-screen entertainment and media platform in China.”

The content will also be available on Alibaba’s online platforms and mobiles as well as on a number of Smart TVs.

As a matter of fact, Disney Life, an online content venture launched in partnership with Alibaba, was shut down in 2016 by Chinese regulators.
