WhatsApp launches UPI-Based Payment system in beta version

The digital transaction segment may get a big boost in near future, as the chatting giant WhatsApp is reportedly testing out its UPI-based payments feature in India. Currently, it is in beta version and hence is facing a few glitches.

The new payment feature is available for select WhatsApp beta users on iOS and Android, and enables users to send and receive money using the Indian government's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) standard. Users at both end must have version 2.18.21 for iOS, and version 2.18.41for Android.

The feature is presently available to select users of the beta app in India. The feature can apparently be accessed in a chat window through the Attachments menu. The option is said to be available alongside other options such as Gallery, Video, and Documents etc. Clicking on Payments will open a disclaimer window, followed by a list of banks to choose from.

Users need toselect their preferred bank account to connect with UPI. They will be asked to create an authentication pin if they haven't yet used the UPI payments platform. Additionally, they will have to create a UPI account in case of no such account through the UPI app or your respective bank's website or app.
