MCMC issued notice against two cable channels

Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) on 30th March in Jalandhar had issued notice against two cable channels namely ‘Hulchul’ and ‘Khabarnama’ for favouring candidates of political party, through news programmes.
MCMC, which has been set up on the directions of the election commission of India (ECI), keeps watch on paid news in electronic and print media ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
As many as 18 complaints have been registered with the committee and it is first time that notices have been issued for showing suspected paid news, MCMC chairman and sub-divisional magistrate-II Paramjit Singh told Hindustan Times.
The members of the committee include district public relations officer (DPRO), Press Information Bureau (PIB) and professors from various city colleges. After keeping track of the media coverage of political leaders and their campaigns, the members give daily reports to the chairman of the committee.
MCMC also monitors social media activities of political leaders as per the ECI instructions, HT reported.
