Doordarshan, a public broadcastor, came into light when a Production Assistant accused an Assistant Director-General of sexual harassment. In her complaint, the lady said that she had been sexually harassed by him. The accused used to pass obscene comments on her, and used to call her in his chamber after office hours.
Further, she said that she complaint about the incident to Vijayalaxmi Chhabra, Director General, Doordarshan, but instead of taking any strick action against him, she transferred her from DD’s Mandi House to the Central Production Centre office in Hauz Khas.
The Assistant Director General, on contacted said that he had been framed. All her complaint is false and engineered to hamper his chances for promotion. She had been given fair hearing in internal complaint panel but panel did not find anything wrong. She then filed her complaint to Police on March 4 but FIR is yet to be registered.
In her complaint she said that she had been asked to stay after office hours so that the Assistant Director-General could preview her documentary. During previewing the documentary, he made explicit sexual interest and obscene gestures. She also complained about an incident of IGNCA, Janpath, on March 9, where several DD staffers were present. There he touched her inappropriately and when she objected he hastily left.
