Progress of digitalization in four metros 68 per cent completed

According to a press release issued by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry has made a statement today that 68 per cent digitisation of households connected with cable television is complete in four metros.
The deadline set by the government for the same in the four metros is October 31 and in rest of the country by December 2014.
"A recent review of the digitisation progress by I & B Ministry has revealed that 68 per cent Cable TV digitisation has already been achieved in the four metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai," the release said.
In Mumbai, 95 per cent digitization has been achieved, in Kolkata the digitization work is 67 per cent completed, in Delhi it stands at 53 per cent and in Chennai 49 per cent digitization has been done.
The only critical component required for the digitization process is set top box and since only six weeks are left for the deadline to be over, the progress was being constantly reviewed by Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The ministry further said that there were about 80 per cent television sets in the households of the four metros, according to 2011 census.
What is amazing is that these figures of STB requirement are almost half of what the ministry had been considering since the beginning of implementation. Base line for TV households this time has been taken from census 2011.
