Himanshu Kapania, CEO of Idea Cellular has been elected chairman of Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) at the GSM trade body's annual general meeting (AGM) on 28 May. He has replaced Marten Pieters.
The COAI represents interests of GSM carriers such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular amongst others.
According to a source, Mr Kapania has been elected COAI chairman for 2015-16 moreover Mr Gopal Vittal, Bharti Airtel's managing director & CEO for India & South Asia, was re-elected vice-chairman of the GSM industry body.
