The information and broadcasting (I&B) minister Smriti Irani told the Lok Sabha that in the last four years, 54 TV channels have been found violating the Programme and Advertising codes.
In 2016, 16 channels had violated the codes, while in 2017, just four channels had violated the codes. In 2014 and 2015, a total of 17 channels violated the programme and advertising codes.
Irani added action is taken against TV channels as per Uplinking and Downlinking Guidelines whenever any violation of the aforesaid Programme and Advertising Codes is established.
