A special committee has been appointed by media giant Viacom to oversee its merger with CBS. The committee will have independent directors. If the merger gets finalized, the entity would have a market value of more than $37 billion. As per media sources, Viacom CEO Bakish is expected to have a senior role at the merged entity.
According to Viacom, there can be no assurance that this process will result in a transaction or on what terms any transaction may occur.
Two years back, CBS and Viacom explored and decided against a merger at the urging of its controlling shareholders, ailing 94-year-old media mogul Sumner Redstone and his daughter Shari Redstone.
CBS has cable networks including Showtime as well as the CBS TV Network and CBS TV Studios.
