IndiaCast and Disney dissolve distribution agreement

The media distribution company, IndiaCast and Disney India have decided to dissolve their distribution contract, hinting that the television distribution business is in for further overhauls. Although the agreement deal expires in March 2016, sources said that it is ending prematurely. It also added that, a definite date for separation still remains unknown.
With the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) not allowing content aggregators to bundle channels from more than one broadcaster, the IndiaCast-Disney JV got dismantled last year. However, IndiaCast continued to distribute Disney’s channels in India as an agent.  Both first set out the JV at 74:26 ratio with IndiaCast as the majority partner.
According to the sources, Disney India , which runs a clutch of kids, youth and movie channels like- Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Hungama TV, Bindass, Bindass Play, UTV Movies and UTV Action, would be taking care of distribution directly from now onwards, and for this purpose the channel has put an independent affiliate sales team in place.
