Election Commission to be tough with paidnews

Expressing concern over paidnews, Delhi's Election Commission said it will take steps to deal with the problem in the run up to the assembly polls in the city.
Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Vijay Dev, said, "Paidnews is one of the focus areas of the Election Commission this time. We will hold an interaction with the media people in this regard.”

He said appropriate action will be taken against the media found involved in paid news.
For the media, we are going to have a separate sensitisation workshop. There is going to be a Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) which will be made at district level and there will be an appellate forum at our level," he added.
He cited the example of some TV channels allegedly having packages in the run up to elections and said the Commission will not hesitate to come down hard against those involved in such cases.
