Italians shift TV times, shunt IPTV

A new report by an Italian university has found that nearly a third of the national population used time-shifted TV last year, while the number of subscribers to managed IPTV services appears to be falling alarmingly.
The study, published by the Politecnico di Milano, found that more than half (59%) of Sky Italia’s subscribers have used non-linear viewing, with the show ‘X Factor’ attracting the most time-shifting behaviour, followed by ‘Masterchef’.

It also revealed that there were 240,000 IPTV subscribers in the country by the end of April 2013, down significantly from 273,000 one month earlier – bad news for the nation’s major IPTV providers such as Telecom Italia.
