Comedy Central manages stay from Delhi HC on MIB order

The Delhi High Court on May 28, 2013 stayed MIB’s order banning telecast of Comedy Central for 10 days. With this, the channel is back on air from May 28, after being off air for three days on May 25, 26 and 27
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) had taken serious note of Comedy Central breaching multiple clauses of content code and had ordered the channel to go off air from May 25 till June 4 for telecasting ‘offensive’ words in its programmes ‘Stand Up Club’ and ‘Popcorn’, which were aired on May 26 and July 4, 2012 respectively.

The MIB had issued a show cause notice to the channel for telecast of the said programmes, which were said to have violated several provisions of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 by airing obscene and vulgar language, besides being derogatory to women.
