India wants more TV spectrum

India’s broadcasting ministry wants more transmission spectrum in the UHF Band V and is discussing the release of these frequencies with the telecoms sector.
India wants to then use the spectrum for a series of new multiplexes for digital TV covering standard digital TV, HDTV and mobile TV. India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan says it will have to equip 630 transmitter towers with new equipment divided into 230 high-power transmitters and 400 low power sites. Projects covering the supply of 40 SDTV digital channels are already underway which include capacity of 4 HDTV channels.
