The government said the sectoral regulator TRAI has issued directions to the telecom operators for transparent delivery of the broadband services. The transparency has to be maintained by providing adequate information under fair usage policy.
"TRAI had issued direction on July 27, 2012 to service providers for delivering broadband services in a transparent manner by providing adequate information to the broadband consumers about various plans offered under Fair Usage Policy ( FUP)," Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Milind Deora said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
The telecom operators have been told, to ensure the speed of broadband connection in all broadband tariff plans is not brought down to less than the minimum speed specified.
The telecom operators have also been told by the Trai to provide alerts to consumers when they are about to exhaust their data usage. "Some of the service providers have started providing the information to their consumers as per the tariff plans submitted to Trai. Service providers have also started providing the information through their website," he added.
Telecom operators have to adhere to all the provisions which require all service providers to report to Trai about new tariff plans.
