Govt considers community radio spectrum fee roll-back

The Government is considering a Department of Telecom report which looked into representations by various organisations for the reduction of community radio forums spectrum fee. The hike in spectrum charges took effect from 1 April 2012.
The Lok Sabha was informed by the Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology Milind Deora that the revision of spectrum charges was for all captive users, as well as for the community radio stations.

Various organisations including community radio forums had requested either exemption from paying spectrum fee or for the roll back of spectrum fee.
The report by the high level committee has been submitted but the government has not taken any decision so far in this regard.
