Almost 10 months after registering the case, the CBI has asked for certified copies of records and files related to the licences issued to Bharti and Sterling and Hutchison which allowed increasing spectrum band width.
A letter has been sent to the DoT by the CBI seeking certified copies of licenses, amendments issued and subsequent additional spectrum issued to all those companies.
The documents about the additional spectrum allocation to the three companies-beyond 4.4 MHz upto 6.2 MHz, beyond 6.2 MHz up to 8 MHz, and beyond 8MHz up to 10 MHz-have to be furnished to the agency “urgently“.
The documents sought are related to the Delhi and Mumbai circles of Airtel, Sterling Cellular for Delhi circle and Hutchison Max Pvt Limited for Mumbai circle.
The Telecom department has told the CBI that Bharti Airtel was not given any wireless operating licenses for Mumbai service area.
