NBA expresses shock at Telangana CM's remarks against TV channels

The News Broadcaster’s Association (NBA) in a press statement on 11 September said that it was shocked at the remarks made by the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao against TV channels.
The association said that such remarks are a direct attack on the right to freedom of speech and expression enshrined as a fundamental right under Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution.
The news broadcasters body also appealed to the Chief Minister to "desist from making such inflammatory charges against the media''.
At the same time, it condemned the "illegal actions'', of cable operators who switched off some of the news channels and urged the government to take necessary action against such cable operators and individuals.
“Blacking out a licensed channel is an anti democratic action that goes against the Constitutional principles of free speech,” it said in the statement.
