After getting a number of complaints from consumers about hot condom TV commercials featuring Sunny Leone, the Advertising Standards Council of India has written a letter to the Information & Broadcasting Ministry suggesting allowing such ads only during 10 pm to 6 am.
ASCI wrote a letter to the I&B Ministry which said: “we suggest that the ministry advise all television channels to ensure that the condom advertisements are aired during the watershed hours — between 10pm and 6am — as these advertisements are meant to be seen only by adults.”
According to ASCI secretary-general Shweta Purandare, as a self-regulatory body the ASCI cannot issue a directive to private companies. “The ASCI seeks the advice of the Union I&B ministry in this regard.”
