While even major telcos suffered huge losses and RCom has to shut operations in 2017, smaller telcos had lost 38 million subscribers on an aggregate basis over the last one year, according to India Ratings and Research.
As per report, the industry ARPU declined sequentially by 11% quarter-on-quarter and 35% year-on-year in September 2017. These smaller telcos had to sell their business at rock-bottom valuations.
According to report, the hastened consolidation benefited larger telcos as SMS and RMS of fringe telcos has come to larger telcos. Telcos including Aircel, Telenor, Sistema Shyam Teleservices, Quadrant, R Com and Tata Teleservices witnessed negative subscriber additions.
