SC asks Prasar Bharti to Examine Launching New Channel to Telecast World Cup Matches

The Supreme Court on 17 February sought the response of Prasar Bharti on the feasibility of launching a separate channel for telecasting ICC World Cup 2015 matches.
Supreme Court had on February 10 stayed a Delhi High Court judgment that had barred public broadcaster Doordarshan from sharing the live feed of the WC matches with the cable operators. The live feed of the matches are provided by ESPN and Star TV which hold exclusive telecasting rights for the ongoing World Cup.
The apex court has extended the interim order that allows DD to broadcast the matches till 19 February.
The bench, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, while directing a further hearing of the matter on Thursday, asked Star to submit the quantum of estimated losses on account of its live feed of the World Cup matches being shared freely by DD through cable operators.
