Mathrubhumi Group to launch news channel on January 23

Mathrubhumi Group is finally ready to mark its foray into the Indian television business with Mathrubhumi News and Kappa TV. While Mathrubhumi News will be launched on 23 January 2013, Kappa TV, a music channel, will set foot into the broadcasting space on 1 February 2013. Both the channels will be available free-to-air and therefore, will chiefly be driven by advertising revenue.
Mohan Nair, CEO, Mathrubhumi TV, says, "To begin with, both the channels will be targeted at the Kerala market and the expatriate crowd in the Gulf region. It will, however, be made available to the other South Indian markets and the rest of India in the long run."

While Mathrubhumi News will be available only in Malayalam, Kappa TV's content mix will include music across Malayalam, English, Tamil and Hindi.
