Kolkata Operators Offer Poor TV Set-Top Box At Rs.450

In a bid to help the poor in Kolkata avail the facilities of digitisation, multi-system operators (MSOs) have forwarded a plan of low-priced digital cable TV package for the underprivileged to the state government.
"Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had requested us to come with packages that could be afforded by the BPL (below poverty line) population.

"So far nothing had been done in this matter but recently the MSOs have formulated a special package and have submitted it to the state government," said Swapan Chowdhury, convenor of the Cable Operators Digitalisation Committee of the Association of Cable Operators in the city.
According to Chowdhury, MSOs have decided to sanction set-top boxes at Rs.450 per BPL cardholder.
"Following the execution of the proposal, each BPL card holder will get the set-top box at Rs.450 instead of the normal Rs.800 and can avail 75 channels for Rs.75," said Chowdhury.
