DD consolidates prime time with new offerings

In a bid to consolidate its position as a mass channel, national broadcaster Doordarshan has revamped its look and also sought to consolidate its 8-10 prime time slot with new shows.
Doordarshan has witnessed several changes in the last few months with a huge amount of money being allotted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as well as a slew of fresh recruitments.

The revamp has been carried out in three major channels of Doordarshan – Doordarshan, DD News and DD Urdu.
He further said, “We are also changing DD News by bringing in new faces and presenting news in a different way. There will be news and discussions in a one-hour format for Hindi and English news. The new packaging will create multiple windows and new technology will take it one notch higher.”
Among the new shows is one titled ‘Yeh Hai India Meri Jaan’ by Saeed Mirza. With this, the well-known filmmaker – known for his works such as ‘Nukkad’, ‘Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro’ and ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Ata Hai’ – returns to Doordarshan after 20 years.
Commenting on his new show, Mirza said, “It’s a journey of the Indian youth, who are travelling across the country to produce their own show.”
Meanwhile, in a move to revive the nostalgia factor, Doordarshan will telecast some of its popular shows from its archives, including ‘Gora’, ‘Ek Tha Rusty’, ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ and ‘Tehreer’, among others.
