Cable TV connections to be counted soon

Enumeration of households having cable TV connections in the district will ensure that The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TNACTCL) does not suffer any financial loss, its chairman K. Radhakrishnan said here on 08 December 2012.
Speaking at a review meeting held at Collectorate, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that though there are 9,41,413 family card holders in the district, the number of households having cable TV connections was reported as 3,23,740 by the 1,099 cable TV operators, thus causing financial loss to the government.

He said that the government had earned only Rs. 45.93 lakh in November for the cable connections in the district and the actual amount could be realised once the exact number of connections was known after enumeration.
“Subscription amount of Rs. 68.23 lakh collected in June in the district is the second highest collection in the State,” he added.
He said that 983 connections were disconnected between June and November for non-payment of subscription charges.
He said that salesmen in 1,497 Public Distribution System outlets in the district, tax collectors, village assistants and panchayat officers had been entrusted with the task of carrying out the survey and the exact number of connections would be known soon.
He sought the cooperation of the public in answering the questions regarding name of the cable operator, number of channels received and amount collected, so that TNACTCL could streamline the system for the benefit of the people.
MP S. Semmalai, MLA M.K. Selvaraj, TNACTCL General Manager V. Dakshinamoorthy, PA to Collector (General) R. Priya, Multiple System Operators (MSOs), cable operators and government officials participated.
