The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has now released the blocked fund of Rs 365 crore to Prasar Bharati after both parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The ministry has allegedly been withholding funds since January 2018.
The government and Prasar Bharati have been engaged in a standoff over the past few months over the memorandum, funds, and appointments.
As per media reports, the broadcaster signed the MoU on March 28, which ensured funds were released. However, the MoU has two points that could cause further conflict, the report claimed.
The MoU said: “PB shall endeavour to augment its productivity and efficiency in its operations and timely pay its dues to government department/organisations including space segment and spectrum charges to the Department of Space and Department of Telecommunications.”
