To inform the viewers that the match is also available on DD Sports, private broadcasters showing live sportive events of national importance will now have to carry a ticker. On 25 April, the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has asked broadcasters to run a ticker.
The ticker will be: ‘This match/ game can also be viewed on DD Sports channel on DD Free Dish DTH and DD’s terrestrial network on free-to-air basis’. Also, the MIB said that the channels will also have to carry only this ticker, in appropriate colour, font and size (making it prominently visible) repeated every 15 minutes. The ticker may be displayed from the point of start of the live broadcast to the end of live broadcast related to the sports event on the DTH/Cable Platform, it added.
The order said: “The broadcaster companies concerned shall adhere to the above instruction strictly. This order will come in force with immediate effect.”
But some experts feel that the MIB order has no legal standing as it has not been mandated in the Sports Broadcasting Act 2007.
