Rovi, TP Vision enter multi-year licensing agreement

TP Vision has entered into a multi-year patent licence agreement with Rovi to use the latter's discovery patent portfolio for its Philips-branded TV models and related second-screen companion applications.
Fully-owned by TPV, TP Vision is the exclusive brand licensee of Philips TVs in Europe, Russia, Middle East, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and selected countries in Asia-Pacific excluding China.

Commenting on what could be a key win, Rovi executive vice president, worldwide intellectual property and licensing, Samir Armaly, said: "This is an important agreement that reinforces the long-term value and relevance of Rovi's patent portfolio for both traditional and next-generation entertainment platforms. Rovi has had a long-standing, historical licensing relationship for Philips-branded products, so we are pleased to close this new agreement and, more broadly, continue to support features and functionality that are central to multi-screen entertainment discovery and enjoyment."
