Apple readies TV onslaught?

Apple has deployed its own content delivery network in the US and Europe, and negotiated interconnect deals with a significant ISPs, including Comcast, according to a report on Streamingmedia.com.
Apple has put in place access to 10 times the capacity it is currently using according to the report. While content from iTunes is currently delivered over Akamai’s CDN, the report says that Apple plans to migrate much of this content to its own network in the future.

Apple joins Microsoft, YouTube and Netflix in developing bespoke CDNs. Apple’s TV plans have been slowed by slow progress with striking deals with US cable operators and in aligning rights from multiple rights-holders to offer its planned service.
