Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on 11th August has informed State Assembly that state-owned Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd (TACTV) will provide broadband and internet services at cheaper rates.
While addressing the Legislative Assembly she said that the Arasu will work with broadband license holder. It has been offering cable TV services at a rate of Rs 70 per month to customers in non-DAS areas.
It will be important to see at what price she will sell this service-whether she will charge a genuine fee based on what she pays to the Broadband service provider or she will continue economic appeasement with Tamil people.
Recently on 7th August Tamil Nadu Cable Operators Association had protested against the low cable TV price in the state and sought march intervention of central government to safeguard their business as the stipulated Rs 70 is insufficient to run their business in state. Out of rs 70 they also have to pay Rs 20 to ARSU.
