An electrical fire at a Samsung subsidiary facility in Gwacheon, South Korea temporarily knocked the smarts out of the company's smart TVs and left them presenting error messages to viewers.
The fire, reportedly caused by an uninterruptible power supply on one of the facility's emergency generators, created disruptions on some services that tap the Internet through Samsung's devices, the company said on its website.
PC World said that the Samsung.com website and Smart Hub service media content portal used by Smart TVs were down and that users were complaining on Twitter. The facility is run by Samsung SDS, a Samsung Group subsidiary that provides software services, outsourcing and consulting.
This is the second recent fire involving Samsung, PC World said. In March, a fire broke out at a Samsung supplier facility where smartphone printed circuit boards are produced. Effects of that fire apparently caused no harm to Samsung mobile phone production.
