In order to conserve traditional records capturing contemporary south Indian music in the last 60 years in the country, Prasar Bharati would establish its first regional digital archives in Chennai next month, its CEO Jawhar Sircar said today.
"The AIR in Chennai has over 25,000 valuable music records, collected over the last 60 years. It could run for over 13,000 hours, But we have only digitised over 700 hours of them. So, a regional digital archives would be established in Chennai in July," he said.

Addressing the platinum jubilee celebrations of AIR Chennai here, he said the proposed archives would be the first such facility outside Delhi and would have a capacity of 3000 GB with three servers.
He also honoured the first Director General of Doordarshan Krishnamoorthy, among others.
The Chennai station was started in June, 1938.
