Operators Stage Protest Against Arasu Cable TV

A large number of Arasu cable connections in the district were off for several hours in the day on 18 February following the action initiated by Arasu Cable authorities by disconnecting the cable services due to non-payment of subscription fee by cable operators.
Irked over the action, a cross section of cable operators gathered in front of the transmission office and raised slogans against the officials' action.

Cable operators said that the authorities unilaterally increased the number of points (connections) over and above the actual strength of customers.
The increase in target was revised twice last year. Unbearable to pay the bill, a majority of cable operators desisted from remitting the subscription to the Arasu Cable and pleaded for downward revision in the target. About Rs.1 crore was due to the Arasu Cable. Talks were held in which the officials and operators arrived at a consensus.
Cable operators explained their difficulty in rural areas where power trips played truant in enhancing the target. The service which was suspended at about 11-30 a.m. was restored at 4.30 p.m.
