MSO Alliance Offers Promotional Offer to Spur Digitisation

In a significant move to facilitate and create momentum for digitisation and to ensure timely implementation of the government mandate for full digitisation, five major Indian MSOs have come together under the aegis of the MSO Alliance to offer consumers a standard, subsidised price for converting from analog to digital by installing digital set top boxes in their homes.
Consumers in Delhi and Mumbai can go digital for a one-time, promotional charge of Rs 799/- which is applicable till September 30, 2012. This promotional, subsidized rate is aimed at easing the burden of digitisation on consumers and for encouraging them to install set top boxes well before the October 31st deadline. Members of the Alliance, namely WWIL (Siti Cable), InCablenet, Digicable, Hathway and DEN Networks, have released a joint advertisement in leading dailies informing consumers about the offer.

Digital cable’s inherent advantages include weather proof services that are not affected by rains and personalised customer service through the neighbourhood cable operator (LCO) who is just a phone call away.
Commenting on the offer, Mr. S.N. Sharma, CEO, DEN Networks & Secretary, MSO Alliance said, "This is a step taken in line with the Government’s objective of educating consumers about the digitisation law and the need for smooth installations of set top boxes by the deadline. This offer has been designed to encourage consumers to make an early decision on converting to digital even as MSOs take on an increasing subsidy burden with adverse dollar exchange rates. We hope this will ensure equitable digitisation over the next two months.”
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revised the deadline for full digitisation of the four metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai to October 31 to allow platforms and consumers more time to convert to digital.
