New guidelines for cable TV operators

media, the Anti Piracy Cell on Saturday summoned the cable TV operators in the city and issued a new set of guidelines.
The representatives of owners of internet cafes and mobile shop/service centres were also summoned to the APC headquarters and handed over the guidelines.

The guidelines include strict maintenance of programme schedule register. Most cable TV operators seldom keep such a record.
The internet cafe owners were told to maintain a separate digital log for each computer to ensure efficient monitoring. The height of the cabins should not exceed 2.5 foot from the table top.
Users who fail to produce identity cards should not be allowed to browse the internet or use the computers. The copy of identity cards should be kept at the cafe for future purposes like an investigation. "These instructions were issued to cafe owners earlier. But most of them were found to be flouting the guidelines," said APC DySP S Rafeek.
The guidelines were issued after recent investigations showed that pirated contents were rampantly spread through these three service providers.
"Mobile phone service centres came under our lens after we learned that music piracy was rampant. These centres also provide pornographic video clips to the customers," the DySP said.
Strict legal action will be taken against those who flout the guidelines, the APC officials said.
