Through a press release issued on 16 January, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for submission of comments and counter comments on the consultation paper ‘Issues relating to Uplinking and Downlinking of Television Channels’.
The fresh last dates are: 31 January for comments and 10 February for counter comments. This was done following the requests of stakeholders.
When TRAI released the consultation paper on 19 December 2017, the last date to provide comments was 18 January, and the last date for submitting counter comments was 31 January.
The regulator had issued the consultation paper after receiving a reference from the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) to look into the matter as the uplinking and downlinking guidelines are more than five years old.
The consultation paper focuses on review of provisions of the existing uplinking guidelines, and downlinking guidelines; this will help in orderly growth of the broadcasting sector.
