After witnessing unprecedented success in consumer products categories, the yoga expert Baba Ramdev will soon launch spiritual channels in local languages. Vedic Broadcasting will launch devotional channels in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Baba Ramdev said: “We will soon launch Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam channels. The infrastructure is ready for the channels to go live.”
He added: “Spiritual channels have to pay Rs 1 lakh per day for broadcasting their channel. Where will the sadhus and saints get so much money from?”
At present, Vedic owns and operates three channels namely Aastha, Aastha Bhajan, and Vedic. The third channel, Vedic, was launched in August 2017. It also runs Arihant through a separate company called Aastha Broadcasting Network.
Baba also criticised the Prasar Bharati for charging Rs 8 crore per channel from broadcasters to place their channels on the pubcaster’s free direct to home (DTH) platform Freedish.
He said: “We have not removed the channels from Freedish. Prasar Bharati is charging Rs 8 crore per channel on Freedish. We will have to fork out Rs 32 crore for four channels per year. We can’t afford this kind of fee.”
